We signed him up for stomp...but it seemed the "break dance" kids had more fun...have to remember that. We showed DS an actual stomp routine last weekend in preparation for this week and to find out that he only got to bang on some homemade drums....was rather disappointing to him. He likes drums but he thought he was going to be doing one thing and that's not what it turned out to be.
DH's mom, sister and her DH, my sister and her DH, and another gal and her fiance -so close might as well be blood related...all came to see DS.
This was the first performancey type thing DS has done since he was 2 years old. Then he had a small part in a play with a group of children riding on ride-along toys down in front of the stage dressed in blue jeans, white t-shirts, and slicked hair 50's style.
The place was poorly lit, so not many good pictures but I'll show ya what we saw the best I can.
We were told we were not their primary audience. That they were performing for God. I liked that.
All the other kids were doing all the motions to the 15 songs they sang to.
One of those songs DS played the homemade drums in.
My son is the one on the left - not the red head- see how his hands are in his pcokets...the family was in stitches laughing so hard at this kids "I don't follow the crowd" manner.
They sang You're Worthy of my Praise...apparently it's from the 80's but I like Jeremy Camp's version of this song...really like listening to Jeremy Camp.
Who is our God? He is mighty, He's forever.
Who is our God? He is powerful and caring.
Who is our God? He can heal, He is loving.
Who is our God? He is Jehovah.
El Shaddai, the Most High
Yahweh, always, (my fave line)
Elohim, He's our strength,
Jireh, our provider,
Rapha, the name that can heal us,
Rohi, loving me, shepherds you and me.
Then the older stomp kids (again no actual stomping...just banging on sticks or trash cans...) did Days of Elijah by Robin Mark (I have been singing this song all day.)
Then they did the sweetest name on earth - has Oh, how I love Jesus x3 then says the sweetest name on earth - only you may know it as I do -Because HE first loved me. DS was singing this song at thursday night Home Church while we were watching a heart ablaze part 12...so cute when your son sings about Jesus!
Then a song: That's why we Praise Him by Tommy Walker it said the title and something about bowing down...some kids wearing sacks came out and they were covered head to toe in these sacks and during the praise part had their hands high and jumping around and the bowing part, they would bow down...so cute and fun! Here's a picture of that but I have a 30 second video also, but not sure how to load onto blogger.
Then they sang their rendition of When I survey the wonderous cross (the hymn they said was "old fashioned" and need to be modernized...) so they add in one chorus that says The wonderful cross...in between each stanza of the regular song. So the audience got to stand and sing with them.

Then they did a song called The Happy Song (I could sing unending songs of how YOU saved my soul - perhaps you know the diddy...I think either Delirious or Sonic Flood also sings this...I know in Youth group when I was a teen we sang this...) My son kept saying he didn't like this song. All week long and each time, I'd bust out singing it...LOL.Then for the finale they asked everyone to stand and the fast paced "you ready for this" music came on (perhaps you've heard it at sporting events? cheerleading competitions?) and they said watch them for the motions, we're gonna take care of the lawn.
Start the lawn mower (pull the string)
mow the yard - push the mower
start the weed eater (again pull the string)
do motions for the weed eater
they had a driving motion too and a a sprinkler (hold nose and use other arm to swish around) then at the end she said time to fertilize - (this is where your arms go every which way and spin around - like the part of the fertilizer equipment dispersing the fertilizer -
this was much fun for everyone...DS did his own thing during the driving part and the rest of the time his hands were in his pockets and he just barely moved his feet....That's my Boy!!
This is us afterwards...DH's BIL got a picture with all 3 of us but DH walked away before my camera was ready to take the picture. Then everyone went to Chili's afterwards...we didn't get to bed til after 11:30pm - and remember I only had 4 hours of fitful sleep the night before.
Here is my Challah.
Time to go enjoy the rest of my Shabbat but here is a picture of my son who can be entertaining when he wants to be...not when someone tells him to.
