On my list:
KJV Bible
honey
colored crown and candle
grape juice and cups
bottle of water
I had jotted down several verses to read but DS was antsy as we did this at the park's picnic tables.
We went to McD's to get some nuggets, apple dippers, and chocolate milk.
We took all this to the park.
First we set the table using the crown around the candle as a center piece (and boy did the flies also come out...bleck)
We said a blessing over the food and ate our nuggets and drank our milk.
After I was done eating and while DS was still eating, I talked to him about Tishri 1 and it being said this was the time of the week of Creation and also during this month our LORD and KING, hence the crown, came to us as 100% God and 100% man. DS asked if he could wear the crown. I said sure because let's rehearse we have just got to heaven and Yeshua has given us a crown, now we bow down and lay this crown at HIS feet because we would rather have Yeshua than anything else.
Then I read to him Numbers 29:1-6
1And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: it is a day of blowing the trumpets unto you.
2And ye shall offer a burnt offering for a sweet savour unto the LORD; one young bullock, one ram, and seven lambs of the first year without blemish:
3And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals for a bullock, and two tenth deals for a ram,
4And one tenth deal for one lamb, throughout the seven lambs:
5And one kid of the goats for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you:
6Beside the burnt offering of the month, and his meat offering, and the daily burnt offering, and his meat offering, and their drink offerings, according unto their manner, for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.
Normally this meal is treated like Shabbat meal with lighting the candle and prayers/blessings, breaking/blessing Challah and drinking/blessing the fruit of the vine as well as something else special (which we did have)
After this I told him a little about Jewish engagement's and weddings .... how the man goes to the ladies dad and pays the price and pours wine and if they accept - including the lady - they drink....he then leaves to prepare a place to take his bride to with a promise to return when the place is ready, and his father will tell him when the place is ready, that way the son does not know, he is just waiting for the go ahead from the father to go get his bride (let that sink in a moment!) (and the book read said it was usually about a 2 year timespan from the man saying to the fiance he would go prepare a place and come for her and he would try to arrive in the night to surprise her and sneak away with her so they could go and stay at their new place for 7 days before reamerging to celebrate with others...again let that sink in!)
So I poured the grape juice and said, Yeshua has come to us and HE has already paid the price with HIS life...now HE pours out the fruit of the vine and says,
John 14:2-3
2In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Do we accept?
DS is hollering YES!!!
so we drink.
I also asked a blessing for the juice:
Blessed are You, HaShem our God, King of the universe, who creates the fruit of the vine. Blessed are You, HaShem our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us by HIS commandments and chosen us. Blessed are You, HaShem, who sanctifies Yom Teruah.
Then I said remember those apples we got....well normally we dip them in carmel but that's everyday way to eat them...today is special so let's do something special....I take out the honey and the apple slices.
I say the blessing:
Blessed are You, HaShem our God, King of the universe, who creates the fruit from the trees. May it be Your will, HaShem our God and God of our fathers, to grant us a blessed and prosperous new year. Be it thy will that a good and sweet year be renewed for us.
And we dip and eat. (let me just say this sure beats eating black eyed peas on 1/1 ... my step dad made us do this...oh the horror!)
Later as DS had been playing a while I asked him to retell me what we did at our picnic. He needed a nudge to get going but then he said something that disturbed me. He said and then we drank Jesus' blood....I stopped him right there and said no we did not. We had grape juice or the fruit of the vine. And I asked why and he said to say we accept. I said right that is symbolic of remembering when we asked HIM to forgive us and to make us into the people HE created us to be and to help us obey HIM all our days. I asked him where he got the blood thing from and he said his daddy's church. Now I know A/G does not teach that it is actually the blood of Jesus they are drinking at communion so DS must just be not listening completely and only hearing/retaining snippets of what is being said (and this is true since Oma let's him play Playstation Personal during service, I don't allow this on Thursday night at Home Church, but Oma says the other people at her church balance their checkbooks while the pastor is preaching....)....so now I am on the hunt for a good child level explaination of communion...I may ask Pastor Herky because we were at his church on 9/2/07 and had communion and I liked the way he explained it.
"May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year!" Happy New Year
