Even though we are officially in "3rd grade" we still needed to finish about 2 terms in Year 2. This week will be the end of the Year 2 readings (other than free reads which will be carried over) and starting febr. onto Year 3 readings.
DS has had some really insightful narrations. Children really are capable of making connections and finding deeper meanings.
on Jan 12th my niece Madison was released from the heart doctor's care so HaleluYAH!!!!
Other than that just trying to survive staying with my mom and her husband -- who is a very very bad influence on DS so prayers needed we can get out of here soon.
Joined another fitness challenge as well. Last year we were challenged to workout once in the AM and again later in the day. Talk about pound losage even while eating normally.
This time aim is 300-900 minutes of excerise per week and we have to log calories as well.
I came across something about how people challenged themselves to read 50 books in 2009....so I went back and added up my readings. I read 64 that I can remember give or take a non-fiction that may have slipped my recollection. ok so how did I read so much? Well it's amazing what you can do while walking on a treadmill one hour every morning.
DS is back in gymnastics and currently plays basketball and soon will be time for machine pitch baseball again and then he wants to play flag football also. Not to mention bike/skateboarding/swimming when the weather warms up again.

Today's Narration
Our Island Story chapter 38 -- whoa ... so much in there even the boy was making connections.
First the author tells us that Henry III married a French gal who brought lots of French people to get the best places at court and their reply to the English was,
'These strangers did very much as they liked. They set aside the Great Charter and, when the English barons complained, the French nobles sneered at them. "What are your English laws to us?" they said. "We are far greater and more important than you. Such laws are made for English boors. We will not keep them unless we choose."'
I was thinking sounds much like the furch who replies as thus to the Bride which is Israel.
Then we read the line that says,
'...as soon as he had got what he wanted, he broke the promises he had made.'
I'm sure we all know people like this. Sad really.
Then at this statement,
'Thus once more the Great Charter was solemnly signed and sealed. But in spite of this ceremony, Henry did not keep his promises. He listened to evil friends, who told him that if he did, he would not be king, nor even lord in England, but the subject of his people.'
My DS8 says, "Isn't our president suppose to serve the people?"
I told him good observation that yes our president should but Henry III was a king and thought that meant he was above the people and could do whatever he wanted.
Then DS8 said the king shouldn't listen to his friends because they could be trying to get him to mess up so they can take his place.
Then we read this sentence spoken by Simon De Montfort,
'"My lord King," replied the earl sadly, "it is unjust that you should fear me who am your faithful friend. I have ever been true to you and yours and to the kingdom of England. Your flatterers are your enemies. Them you ought to fear."'
It speaks of Simon being the father of parliament.
Isaiah 33:22
For the L-RD is our Judge, the L-RD is our Lawgiver, the L-RD is our King; HE will save us.

Things Do Line Up
First, have ya ever wondered about the 4 seasons? Anna did a great post 2 days ago on them. Check it out here.
And now for what I titled this post.
I was reading in More Charlotte Mason Education yesterday and on page 20 the author talks about Miss Mason's advice on how we don't have to 'unit study' everything or line/link it up for a child, that they can draw their own connections. She says she's noticed life is just connected that way. "Without planning, one topic (e.g. inventions, discoveries, etc) may surface two or three times a day from a variety of books you're reading from. ... - it's uncanny how random selections will augment teachings from other subjects covered earlier in the day. ... I have grown accustomed to these kind of random choices coming together in a connected way."
Later yesterday we had our home education lesson time and our Bible passage was Genesis 14:17-24 which mentions MelchiZedek. Then last night in Jewish Roots 101 class we discussed Hebrews chapter 7 which links us back to Genesis chapter 14 .... so a connection was made for me yesterday.
And something I read in TorahClass's Levivticus Lesson #11 on twos day night was also repeated in our study of Hebres chapter 7.
Also yesterday I was reading some in a book a friend gave me called To Be A Jew and I'm in the chapter on Kashrut. The connection came this morning as I was on the treadmill and listening to a downloaded message that was talking about Kashrut.
This happens to me a lot, does it to you as well?

We are officially working on Year 2!!!
And I was reading in Charlotte Mason's Volume II page 20-21 last night and she got it:
"When we perceive that God uses men and women, parents above all others, as vehicles for the transmission of his gifts, and that it is in the keeping of his law He is honoured––rather than in the attitude of the courtier waiting for exceptional favours––then we shall take the trouble to comprehend the law written not only upon tables of stone and rolls of parchment, but upon the fleshly tablets of the living organisms of the children; and, understanding the law, we shall see with thanksgiving and enlargement of heart in what natural ways God does indeed show mercy unto thousands of them that love Him and keep his commandments."
