Home Education Thoughts and Prayer from October 2006

Love of learning.
Know how to look for answers.
Self-disciplined and motivated.
Able to apply learnt subjects to everyday life – i.e. earn $, keep house, balance checkbook, stay out of debt, cook, be a man of God in all areas of life called to be it work, leadership there and in the home, husband, dad, etc.

Goals

Not just academics but also Godly morals, values, and ethics. To be fitted for service unto YHWH via a Biblical perspective on all subject areas. A well rounded education to include the five core subjects MO state law requires (Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) plus many additional (History, geography, music and it’s composers, art and it’s artists, nature study/walks, a book of centuries, handicrafts, Poets, hymns, Scripture memorization, folksongs, Plutarch, Shakespeare, French, sign language, possible German if his Oma will teach him, Torah and Hebrew meanings, Yearly read thru of the Bible, daily Proverbs and Psalms reading, fieldtrips, volunteer in community, several sports and instruments, just to name a few), thus providing the ability to go after any career field he is called in to. To be able to function as a morally civilized adult knowing right from wrong and what YHWH says about/in all situations. Most important of all is to know and love and obey YHWH in whatever phase of life he is in: son, student, employee/employer, husband, dad, head and worship leader of the home, etc. To be prepared for anything, able to acclimate, and be flexible.

Why

YHWH says it is our responsibility to make sure child is educated to know HIM and HIS commands. We can do this ourselves or choose to delegate it out. We have chosen ourselves. We love our son more than a hired educator ever could. We have more time to instill and ensure correct truths are learnt. We want our son to be able to think and make decisions that are in accordance with YHWH’s written word- even if that means going against what is popular. And also because he is my only child, I want to be with him as much as possible in a positive. Influential way. I want to model that learning is a lifestyle. When he is an adult, I want him to love learning, seek to develop his unique talents and abilities, to hunger for knowledge and fellowship with YHWH. I want to raise him in the fear and admonition of YHWH. I want him to be educated, able to defend the basis of his faith, and to be an influence in the world around him once he is of age. I want Noah to be a mighty man of YHWH and a blessing to other people. I also believe children learn communication and relationship skills better in the age-integrated, specifically social home environment rather than in the age-segregated, randomly socialized setting.

Proverbs 29:18 - Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

S – is for strength in family relationships
I – is for intimacy with Yeshua
D – is for depth in spirituality
E – is for excellence in academics and life preparation
S – is for sanity in social and emotional realms

When we home educate, we pledge to be present for our child(ren) physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It is a huge commitment that requires more than any special abilities or training. It requires willingness to work, dedication, sacrifice, and a real desire that our children discover the joy of learning.

If YHWH calls you to home educate, HE only ask you to be obedient. HE will equip you.

Psalm 32: 8 - I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

YHWH is the only “principal” to whom we are accountable and if we are in obedience to HIM, we are doing fine. HE guarantees it.

Again I want for my son to love YHWH, aspire to goodness and faithfulness, and to acquire wisdom.

Within 2 years – to be reading at or above grade level, able to write legibly, and do basic math.

Within 5 years- Mastered the basics and able to think

Within 10 years – close to graduating and a man after YHWH’s own heart

Psalm 127:3 - Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 - Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

II Timothy 3:16-17 - All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

*Our primary goal is to raise godly children for YHWH’s glory and purpose. To share the responsibility and achievement of home education.

Role of husband in home education:
Have selfless dedication to his family and esteem for wife’s work in homemaking and home educating children.
Allow the wife to vent without judging if she needs to.
If the wife has already cleaned something, try and keep it clean.
Be interested in the home education process and progress.
Read stories and help with studies not finished during the day.
Be the children’s nighttime routine manager. Children love to be tucked in by their daddy.

Role of wife in home education:
To value and appreciate husband’s faithfulness and responsibility to the task of earning a livelihood to make it possible for her to stay at home.
Knows her husband is showing his commitment by that act.
Perform the home keeping and home educating goals.

Isaiah 40:11
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

My prayer for DH 10/25/2006
To know, love, walk and obey Yeshua with all his being.
To be the husband/dad Yeshua wants him to be.
To be healthy, now and always.
To enjoy his work.
To find favor and be blessed.
To be happy with me and Noah and to desire more arrows/blessings in the form of children.

My prayer for DS 10/25/2006
To know, love, walk and obey Yeshua with all his being.
For spiritual and character growth that is pleasing to Yeshua.
To have friends who are also Yeshua Obeyers and home educated and that will have time for him.
To be healthy, now and always.
Bless this child with siblings.
For his future wife may she be a Yeshua Obeyer, a Titus 2 gal, and want to home educate my grandchildren.
Place a hedge of protection around him, shield him from the moral decay, let it not influence him but rather let him live above it.
Let him learn to read and enjoy it.
May he learn math and writing and enjoy those as well.
May he always enjoy being home educated. (update November 2007 DS asks me if he can always be homeschooled even in grade 14)

My prayer 10/25/2006
To know, love, walk and obey Yeshua with my whole being.
To be the wife and mom HE wants me to be.
To please my husband.
To be a loving and caring mom.
To keep a clean house and healthy body.
To be healthy now and always.
Please restore this bodies endocrine, hypothalamus, thyroid, pituitary, and reproductive health.
Continued blessing to be a wife and mom at home and able to home educate.
Bless my life with more children and energy to care for them.
