So....

Well I am not exactly sure how to write this.

First of all I am not sure if my DH is a Believer. I have asked him in the past and he said he didn't want Jesus in his life right now because he was having too much fun....and for him the reason why he goes to church in his words is that it is a social thing.

So that being said, today he told me that since being with me he is starting to believe in reincarnation...when asked why, he replied because of some of the things I say and do as if I were from the 1800's...ie the trying to cook NT or healthier and wanting to live on some land and be self sufficient and trying to go dresses only (this is still a work in progress).

I know I am not a reincarnated person from the 1800's because that is not possible. I however have been reading up on a simple life and back then they must have been smarter than we today with our modern conveniences...don't get me wrong those are nice things...but do we really have more time each day to just enjoy our family and friends? Isn't that what all these gadgets and gizmo's were suppose to give us? Well now with smaller electronics...you can work while you're in the bathroom....and on and on....SO how is that leading to more time to enjoy with those we love?

I am also dishearted that in order to hopefully get my body functioning properly I have to cut out a lot of bad foods...ie things DH likes to eat. So this means either making healthier food and hoping he will eat it and/or 2 seperate meals at each meal time.

I tried just making healthier dinners....he complained...so now we are trying seperate dishes at mealtime, and that means more money spent at the store and more time in the kitchen. Not to mention mucho temptation for me to eat things I shouldn't eat.

And he says by cooking healthy I don't care about him....I feel as if he doesn't care about me....I mean if I stay on this track of eating the wrong kinds of foods, diabetes and heart disease will be in my future because pcos tends to head that direction and my bio-dad was a diabetic...so that's not cool. And eating healthier would be better for all of us, after all DH complains that he thinks DS is eating to much junk...well let's look at his examples....if I keep sweets and stuff out of the home I don't eat them, but when they are here, all 3 of us sure can gobble them down quickly. However, if we the parents ate healthier, then DS would follow suit.

So when I went grocery shopping on 8.15.07 I bought the following:

*DH's 4 favorite frozen meals and a frozen pizza for him $21
*his has to be from the deli counter roast beef for sandwiches $6
*2 loaves of white bread for his lunches (he takes 2 sandwiches every time he goes to work) $1.50
*granols bars (chocolate chip) for him $3
*oreos for him and DS and as of yesterday they were already gone (see what I mean about the amount of junk food being eaten, and quickly) $2.50
*vanila pudding for him and DS $2
*whipped yogurt in key lime for he and DS $2
*little debbie orange cupcakes for them $1.40
*fruit snacks for them $2
*cherry coke (yes he has to have name brand) for them $4
*instant apple/cinnamon oatmeal at DH's request $3
*nesquick in strawberry flavor for them to have with there milk $5
*bagels $1
*chocolate chips for DS $1
*candy at register for ds 60cents
*bananas for ds $1.52
*marshmallows DS asked for $1.25
*bottled root beer DS asked for (why do they put these things at kid's eye level...arg) $3.30
*lunchable DS asked for - he likes the drink and the toy...arg again packaging $2

So about $64 for them

**whole cut up chicken for me to cook and eat off of for the next week $6.40
**baby spinach leaves for me $3
**black olives $1.25
**scallions for me 60 cents
**a cucumber for me 70 cents
**frozen zuchinni and squash for me $3
**no sugar added fruit yogurt (blackberry) for me $2
** gluten and wheat free brownie mix (hoping they may want some also) $6.50
**100% pure maple syrup $4.50
**seltzer water 73cents
**purified water - to soak foods in 60 cents
**100% grape juice $3
**real butter $2

about $34 for me

but look at what they get to eat for the week....(of course DS is welcomed to eat the oatmeal and omeletes I prepare for breakfast and any of the food I prepare for myself... In fact that is one way I "trick" him into eating better, he likes to mooch off my plate)

on 8/15/07 I made beans and rice over potatoes for dinner...DH said, "what no meat?" I told him that beans and rice together are a complete protein...he looked in the saucepan where I had the B&R and said "eeew gross, no way am I eating that..."

I however will have the last serving for lunch today and I say it was yummy!

so how do you ladies get your DH's to eat "meatless" dishes?

This is something that I have been through! When I first married DH he had been living with his grandma with deep fried food and baked beans (his fav!!) with every meal. Also I don't eat red meat, I get my protien else where!! So he has had to adjust to a chicken and steamed veg diet! I do do his fav chips once a week, but I fry them in canola oil and not as many as he used to get! Although he had to adjust he is much happier and healthier now and LOVES it!

I will be praying for this situation for you sister,
Amy

Oh honey! Bless your heart. Wish I had something helpful to add.

I've been married ten years and with that experience all the advice I can give is be gentle. Do what he will allow, continue to make his favorite foods, and do not become his mother. He's a grown man and can eat whatever he likes. Maybe as he sees you getting healthier, he'll be prompted to change.

Also, my husband thinks I'm nuts with the survivalist stuff, too. I just try to keep it toned down and to myself as much as I can. Our husbands will surely reap the rewards of our diligence when the time comes.

My heart aches for you as I read this. I would guess the food issues wouldn't really matter if he were truly a believer and living the way you desire your family to live. It can be so hard to handle the big problems and the little problems all at once.

As long as he isn't telling you that you can't buy what you want to eat, then I think the best answer for now is the compromise (though I know it is extra everything). At least this way you are not forced to eat the junk.

A while back, you had asked me about baking with grains other than wheat. Did you get my answer? I posted it under the comments section where you asked me. If not, I can certainly answer you anywhere you like.

Praying for you!
