Truman and 1948

I went to the Truman Library today. First time ever. Why did I go? They had an Israel exhibit there. Truman was given some really nice gifts over the years from American-Jews. He had a nice silver Hebrew Bible, Haggadah, a mini Torah scroll with the date 11/22/48 on it and the note said we aren't sure of the signifigance of the date.

I also noted some of his democratic ideals...he was all for government control of education, health care, etc ... tsk tsk tsk ... course he said it should be for the good of the people.... and he was the first president to declare war w/o congress consent ....... hmmm

He said he was raised as a baptist but not overly religious. He had read the Bible many times and that's why he decided the Israelites deserved to have their homeland back.

More on Truman and Israel here

I also spent some time reading about the lives featured in Portrait 2000 and there was a 1 hour DVD playing...I can't remember the name of it

Here is just a few of them but one really caught my eye Gustave Eisemann because he was also mentioned in many of Trumans endeavors and he goes to a local Synagoge that I've heard others mention at the Messianic functions I attend. And it turns out that many of these Holocaust survivors were responsible for the hospital my son was born at even being started.

While standing in the middle of the long hallway and many faces and stories I silently apologized that gentiles could be so mean and that I love them because Messiah is one of them and through HIM I also partake with them. Their joy is my joy, their pain is my pain. I don't look down my nose at them. Rather I want to know more about them and their customs.

A ministry is calling for christians to repent of sins committed against the Jewish people (click on present call tab for info) I've got a booklet that covers about 2 months worth of daily things to repent for and gives an eye opening glimpse into how the church has persecuted the Jews. The booklet is titled Teshuvah ... maybe email the people at the website and see if they can send you one

A good book to read Our Hands are Stained with Blood by Michael Brown
