Isaiah 7:14

Reads like this in my KJV

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

and thanks to reading this paragraph in the 3rd part of chapter 8 of An Understandable History of the Bible:
Wilkenson records Smith's comments concerning Isaiah 7:14: "This change gives room to doubt the virgin birth of Christ. The meaning of the words of Isaiah may, therefore, be presented thus: 'Behold the young wife is with child."'189

I blurted out last thursday night at Home Church about how bad the NIV was...now don't get me wrong I do believe the NIV is wrong because of the missing verses as seen here
but the NIV does not say young woman or wife in Isaiah 7:14...and I couldn't find RSV version on biblegateway but I happen to have one I am fixing to throw out that was given to me when I was in VBS as a 2nd grader and the first to memorize the week's Bible verses, but let me run and grab it real quick...
Ok I am back and yes that version does say young woman but has a note that says "or virgin"

but so far at biblegateway by clicking all the translations only the CEV has a note that says the word was hard to translate and could mean either or both but Matthew correctly translated it in his book because he knew the scripture and knew it was describing Mary as a young virgin.

So just wondering over here....oh and in Intro to Jewish Roots class yesterday, I was the only with a KJV in the room and was told that it and all translations since come from an englishized point of view... to read more about that please see my xanga weblog
