Anyone else reading and watching?

First here's a word that's been tossed around lately:

Repent, but what does that mean. It is NOT just feeling remorse for something you've done. Literally turn from what you are doing that is wrong and do that which G-D says is right.

Second I read a lot of theories on the rapture and end times, I have one question does anyone know anything about john darby? He is labeled as the guy to first use the word rapture.

Listen in on the following conversations:

re: beginning of the tribulation starting this week between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

If you are a pre-tribber, as I am, then basically we hold to the doctrine of imminence which means that Christ could come back at any moment, and we are to be eagerly watching and waiting for His return. There is no event left on the prophetic calendar that has to happen before the rapture.

That being said, I personally don't hold to the idea that the rapture will occur on a particular timetable aligning with Jewish feasts, as the rapture is for the church not Israel. (It would be fantastic if it was this week, though. :-)

First of all doesn't the bible say that even Jesus doesn't know when he is coming back. ONly God knows.

Second of all, Satan doesn't know either, so he has to put someone in place in every generation to be poised to become the anti-Christ. Think about it. Look back thru History. IT makes sense.

MP: whoa that last statement was so pro-replacement theology ....

Jesus is/was a Jew

((and I'd like to heartily agree with this commenter and remind us that when we accept Jesus as our L-RD and Saviour we too are grafted in.

Romans 2:28-29

Galatians 3:28-29

Ephesians 2:12-13 ))

speaking of rapture -- does anyone on here know anything about a john darby who may have come up with the term in the 1800's?

I don't know anything about him, but I've heard that the idea of the rapture is actually a relatively new idea.

The 144,000 Jews
By: starbucklover Oct 07, 2008 07:55:PM

I have always wondered what sets them apart for God to seal them thus protecting them from any of the Antichrists wrath. Are they the Orthodox Jews living over there? Why this 144,000. What is so significant about them?

yes, I know it's in Revelatioins, but what is significant about this 144,000? Are they Jews that have come from the four corners of the earth? Just wondering.

They are the ones that has Gods seal on them and they go through the tribulation. Then they will serve before God. They will be marked before the four Angels. From what I have understood is That God is keeping his promise to Abraham.

Well, on an official basis, so to speak (and no offense to the Messianic Jews here - or anywhere - I know of a Catholic lady on EWTN who is a Messianic Jew) but anyway, sort of nationally, you know, they rejected the Messiah way back when. But at this tiime they will accept Him. These are saved, born-again Jews.

I have heard that the ones that are sealed are the Orthodox Jews still living by the OT laws. I just wanted to know what everyone else thought. Thanks.

They also will ministry to the gentiles during the tribulation. I believe that they will be the orthodox Jews that actually believe in God still. I dont know though.

I'm still wondering very much about john darby being the first to even talk of a rapture.

If I understand correctly and I was reading some of if last night (and I was tired so I might mess this up) but it is Jews that accept Christ as their savior during the Tribulation and I believe the early post about ministering to the Gentiles is correct.

Thirdly my questions to you:

I recently got through 16 lecture notes on Revelation from a Jewish Apocalyptic Literature stance. It was very eye opening. Maybe someday I'll weblog about it....((if anyone is interested...let's see some comments asking for the info and you've got to share what you know about john darby and when this rapture view was first started since the above poster piqued my interests and maybe yours))

I don't know anything about John Darby - never heard of him before now - so I need to do some googling to hold up my part of the bargain, but I'd LOVE to see your notes!

As for "replacement theology"...that's why I left my last church. The anti-Jewishness there was...appalling. :sigh:

OK - looks like Darby was one of the "founders" of Fundamentalism...here's some links for you - I don't endorse any of them, just found 'em via Google: (I only scanned these - I'm at work, and can't really study them, so I apologize if they're not what you were looking for)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Nelson_Darby - mentions the "secret rapture", and states that he is the founder of Dispensiationalism (I know I butchered the spelling - sorry!)

www.johndarby.org - biography - I scanned it, and didn't see a mention of Rapture

http://bible.christiansunite.com/darbyindex.shtml - Commentary on the New Testasment by Darby.

http://eword.gospelcom.net/comments/darby/ - his Commentary on the *whole* Bible.

http://www.histable.com/JND.html - a good overview of Darby and his beliefs and teachings.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/apocalypse/explanation/amprophesy.html - This was....interesting? It's by PBS, which I usually like...but....Darby is discussed about halfway down. According to this, Darby was a Pre-Tribber. The history tying him into the "Great Awakening" is interesting (I did, actually, read this one...couldn't help myself!)

Hope these help!
