It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
the author goes on to say there are people who would try to yoke you with the letter of the law which would lead you back into bondage. The freedom that Christ has given allows you to embrace the spirit of the law.
I had to look this up in KJV and CJB
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free , and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
What the Messiah has freed us for is freedom! Therefore, stand firm, and don't let yourselves be tied up again to a yoke of slavery.
Then I thought to look up Matthew 5:17-20 in the dake kjv I have and started perusing the notes which led me to Colossians 2:14-23
and those verses had some notes
Christian Law on Sabbaths
this refers to all the sabbaths of the law of moses (love this, Moses's law....no it's G-D's) including the regular weekly sabbath. all of them are now abolished with the law thus fulfillinf prophecy (Isa 1:13-15; Hos 2:11). christians are now free to keep any day they want to as a sabbath (really why do they all cling to sungoday?) Rom 14:5-6, Gal 3:9-10. All sabbaths were a shadow of the rest we now have in Christ (Mt 11:28-30, Heb 4:3, 10-11; 10:1) [spiritual rest same as physical rest? or can I just claim I'm with ya in spirit and call it good?]
christian law on traditions
if you be dead with Christ, having been freed from the elementary rules of the world and rudiments of Judaism, why then be subject to them any longer? [not sure why they lump commands in Torah as being rules of the world nor why they sneer at "Judaism"] their [again refering to it as theirs and not G-D's] program is simply touch not this or you will be unclean (Lev 15), taste not this for it is unclean (Lev 11, Dt 14), and handle not that for it is forbidden. All such things are to perish with the using. they are mere traditions of men, not laws of God in the new covenant (Col 2:20-23). [oh when did G-D become so fickle? again why do they say these things they've given us the location of in Scripture are traditions of men?]
ok so YAY free to do whatever I want....it's all about spirit so on the inside I'm obeying but on the outside I'm not...
ok so u do the sungoday thing what about mixing worship of HIM on days that throughout history the lost have worshipped their false gods and not only attribute those days as special to HIM but even include some of the customs/traditions they used for their created gods??? HE does not want you doing that!!!
Deteronomy 12:29-32 CJB
"When ADONAI your God has cut off ahead of you the nations you are entering in order to dispossess, and when you have dispossessed them and are living in their land; be careful, after they have been destroyed ahead of you, not to be trapped into following them; so that you inquire after their gods and ask, 'How did these nations serve their gods? I want to do the same.'You must not do this to ADONAI your God! For they have done to their gods all the abominations that ADONAI hates! They even burn up their sons and daughters in the fire for their gods!"Everything I am commanding you, you are to take care to do. Do not add to it or subtract from it.

What has Messiah freed us from? His suffering, death and subsequent resurrection served to free us from the bondage of sin. He has freed us from sin. Somehow early in our attempts to define ourselves in opposition to Judaism, we came up with the idea that we were freed from the Torah. But that's not what it says, that's not what Messiah came to do.
He came to set us free from slavery to sin that leads to death, to make a way for us to enter the presence of the Almighty when we are covered by His blood. The earthly Temple worship was meant to provide us a physical way to enter G-d's presence in the Tabernacle/Temple. It was never intended to be a way to forgive sin (that has always been done via a heart relationship with the Father), but only a way to make us ritually pure to stand in His presence. What Messiah did was not in opposition to anything that was already in place. He provided a way for us to spiritually enter the presence of G-d and when the time comes, to physically stand before Him as well. The two go hand in hand, as the writer of Hebrews points out so clearly. The Temple was destroyed not because Yeshua came but because we, the children of G-d, were arrogant and hateful toward our brothers. The Temple was destroyed due to our wickedness and straying from the clear instructions of G-d, the hardening of our hearts. That's why it was destroyed the first time too.
As confounding as it is to us, imagine how confusing all of this must be to the angels that minister before the throne of G-d and are charged to be His messengers for us. They must just puzzle over how, and why, He continues in his mercy and patience toward mankind. He is truly awesome...
